His parents, while not neglectful, did not know how to deal with him, and, as a result, often did not. His encouragement to become a Doctor came primarily from his childhood sweetheart and her family. He went to Cardiff for uni with his sweetheart, Marie, who was studying business administration. They married their sophomore year. They struggled for a few years, especially when Marie fell pregnant Bran's first year of med school. But they managed. His parents never were involved with Caitlin, because they couldn't 'make the trip'- even into town when Bran and Marie visited Marie's parents. Bran went to medical school and finished his residency at the age of 28. Caitlin was 8 and Bran was 32 years when she and Marie were crashed into by a drunk driver on their way home from school. Bran was on duty at the hospital that day. Marie was killed instantly, but Caitlin lived for three hours after arriving at the hospital. His parents asked if that meant he was coming home now and settling down. Bran quit the hospital, went into debt and bought a houseboat and set sail. He wrote a book of stories he used to tell Caitlin, illustrating it with a combination of photography and photoshop. He handed it to a friend from school for her daughter, Marjorie, his goddaughter, and went out to sail again. When he came back in, it was published and wildly successful. He had another one for her. He lives off the royalties and travels. He just arrived in Tampa with his dog. Another goddaughter, Tara, came to live with him. Bran has four goddaughters and three godsons.
